Compare ecosystems, not Android vs iOS

Recently Bryan Alexander, Senior Fellow for the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE), and I had an exchange on Google+ regarding how to think about mobile OS dominance. Our brief chat got me thinking about the merits of such a debate in today’s world. Unlike the years of PC-centric Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Unix platform thinking, the reality is that mobile operating systems don’t matter all that much.

Is hardware dead (in terms of technical mystique)?

As I read through a post on Inneractive by Hillel Fuld entitled, “Specs Are Dead? Try Hardware is Dead. Well, Irrelevant, At the Very Least,” I found myself asking similar questions. In short, to most of the public does what is inside a computer or device matter? Quite frankly, I’d argue no.

Goodbye Android OS and Good Riddance

Death of my EVO

Back in September 2010 I gave Android a try and as I’ve blogged about here, I discovered many strengths and weaknesses to the Android OS. Now, a year and change later I have reached a level of frustration that shows no promise of reversing. Google’s approach to Android has been a huge disappointment. Android and its inherent instability has forced me to abandon it as a communication platform.

iPhone and EVO Adventure (part 3)

It has been about 10 weeks since I started my iPhone 4 and Android Evo adventure and I have to say, there’s no clear winner. Each has its strengths and shortcomings and as such, I wouldn’t give up one for the other.
