Compare ecosystems, not Android vs iOS

Recently Bryan Alexander, Senior Fellow for the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE), and I had an exchange on Google+ regarding how to think about mobile OS dominance. Our brief chat got me thinking about the merits of such a debate in today’s world. Unlike the years of PC-centric Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Unix platform thinking, the reality is that mobile operating systems don’t matter all that much.

Users take to iOS 5.1 surprisingly quickly

I don’t understand why this surprises folks. The upgrade process is quite seamless, painless, and for the most part automatic. Making a point-rev update to an OS doesn’t and shouldn’t be a hand-wringing affair.

It has been about 10 weeks since I started my iPhone 4 and Android Evo adventure and I have to say, there’s no clear winner. Each has its strengths and shortcomings and as such, I wouldn’t give up one for the other.

iPhone and EVO Adventure (part 1)

iPhone 4 32GB BlackI am changing jobs and as a result, changing phones. Okay, I’m not changing phones so much as adding another one for my new job, but the opportunity for a side-by-side device comparison still exists. For the record, I’m sticking with an iPhone but opting to do something different for work. I decided on an Android device as I’m really not a Blackberry person.
