Visualizing (one of my new favorites)

Many years ago, my interest in information visualization was sparked by my hometown newspaper editor. He challenged me as a parttime typesetter to come up with graphics to enhance stories — “like USA Today, but better.” My career took me through data visualization, new media, and now back to information design — not as a career choice but as tool to represent complex processes.

In the last couple of years, information design has exploded onto the scene and visualizing.org is one of my favorites to check out for inspiration.

Data visualization and "Visual Complexity"

A good friend of mine introduced me to Visual Complexity by Manuel Lima

VisualComplexity.com intends to be a unified resource space for anyone interested in the visualization of complex networks. The project’s main goal is to leverage a critical understanding of different visualization methods, across a series of disciplines, as diverse as Biology, Social Networks or the World Wide Web. I truly hope this space can inspire, motivate and enlighten any person doing research on this field.

The website is a fascinating exploration of how to think and envision interconnectedness and information visualization. Well worth a look.
